A baker is making a special blend of spice mix for his famous gingerbread. The recipe specifies that the amount of cinnamon must be twice the amount of nutmeg, and the amount of ginger must be half the amount of cinnamon. If a full batch of this spice mix, consisting only of these three spices, weighs 420 grams, how many grams of nutmeg are in one full batch?

Solution
105 grams — Let N be the amount of nutmeg, C be the amount of cinnamon, and G be the amount of ginger, all in grams.
From the recipe's specifications, we can set up the following relationships:
1. "The amount of cinnamon must be twice the amount of nutmeg" translates to: C = 2N
2. "The amount of ginger must be half the amount of cinnamon" translates to: G = C / 2
We are also told that the total weight of these three spices is 420 grams:
3. N + C + G = 420
Now, we can use substitution to express all variables in terms of a single variable, N:
Substitute C = 2N into equation (2):
G = (2N) / 2
G = N
Now, substitute C = 2N and G = N into equation (3):
N + (2N) + (N) = 420
Combine the like terms:
4N = 420
Solve for N:
N = 420 / 4
N = 105
So, there are 105 grams of nutmeg in one full batch. (Cinnamon would be 2 * 105 = 210g, and Ginger would be 105g. Total = 105 + 210 + 105 = 420g).
